Timber decking can be used in a variety of applications. Traditionally outdoor decking was used on sloping blocks and verandahs, to create usable, outdoor living space. Today, timber decking is also commonly used for outdoor rooms, to go around swimming pools, for decking over concrete that is either cracked or aged, decking over outdoor tiles and to make a ground level deck.

Decking materials can be broken down into four sections:

Decking – deckboards
Decking frame – structural timber joists and timber bearers – treated pine and hardwood timber
Deck hardware – decking screws, decking nails, joist hangers, post supports, post shoes, weed mat, malthoid, cn oil, cn emulsion
Balustrade and handrails – balustrades, handrail, stainless steel handrails, timber handrails, glass pool fencing, deck railing and stainless steel cables

All balustrade, handrails and deck railings must comply with the Building Code of Australia. This states that timber decks which are less than one metre off the ground, do not necessarily require a handrail. However, for safety and visual reasons, a handrail can complete your timber deck.

Timber decks that are more than one metre off the ground, must have balustrades or a handrail.

Deck lights and deck lighting will enhance your timber deck and will invite you to enjoy your timber decking long after the sun has gone down.
